estela and jordan first kiss??

probably when estela's upset. like not the whiney upset but the snotty, ugly sobbing, chest rattling kind that jordan has to hold her for. until the cries turn into sniffles and and she's holding onto jordans shirt in her hands, fingers curled in the fabric to keep em' close. jordans the only one who she feels safe with, who can see her this vulnerable and not think shes weak or pathetic or ugly.

and so she'll look up at them with her weepy face all splotchy and cheeks tinted red and jordan will push back the hair that's sticking to her face from her salty tears and the gesture will be so tender tela's little heart will crack right open and all the feelings she'd been holding back will pour in like a tidal wave, and she just gets swept in the current of it.

kisses jordan right then, even if its wrong, even if she's a pile of sludge and battered emotions she feels the calmest she's ever felt, when Jordan's hands come up to cup her wet cheeks, when their lips move under her much more clumsy ones and show her the way.

for a moment its just them, like they're in a snowglobe that's just been shaken and set right again, and the snow is just falling like it should, she melts into them, hears jordans intake of breath and feels how their fingers tighten before they fall away and they're pulling back.

one of those panels where it didn't stick out to me much the first time around but in every subsequent reread has me going theme!!!

But like, ugh Keishin is teaching, yeah, even if they might not quite pick up on it, but it's a lesson, he's intentionally teaching them the importance of self-maintenance, of food.
